Elves Vs Goblins – Defender Walkthrough
Defending the kingdom isn’t always an easy task. It’s important to know both friend and foe alike. Familiarize yourself with your army and that of your enemy with our quickstart guide below!
How to Play
Getting Started
So you find yourself on the front lines of the age-old battle between elves and goblins. How do you know what’s what? Well, that’s what this section is for! Below is everything you need to know when getting started.
- After clicking Play, you will be taken to Level Select. From here, the current level is displayed, and you will be able to choose your team of defenders. Choose your allies from the available list shown. Allies you’ve chosen to fight with you for that level will be displayed in the slots at the top of the screen.
Tip: All slots at the top of the screen need to be filled before the level can begin!
- Reset defenders at any time by clicking on the trash icon in the upper right corner. Make sure your defense team is well thought-out when entering levels.
- If you’d like to play a different level, not to worry! Click on the banner icon in the lower left corner to view all the levels currently available to play, then select the one you’d like. Once ready, follow the above steps, then click Start!
- Tip: Remember! All enemies you will face per level will always be immediately visible on the right when choosing your Defenders. Take these into account when choosing your team!
Battle
The front lines can be a daunting place, especially if you’re not sure what’s going on. But not to worry: we’ll guide you through the basics in order to give you a comprehensive understanding of your surroundings.
- As soon as you click Play, enemies will start approaching from the right. The goal of each level is to prevent enemies from reaching the line of statues on the far left.
- Select a Defender from those you chose in the Level Select screen, which are displayed at the top of the screen. Once selected, click on a square in the field to place them.
Tip: Did you make the wrong selection? Right-click to cancel!
- Once you’ve placed a Defender, a cooldown period will automatically go into effect. This means you must wait a short period of time before you can place another Defender of the same type.
- Each Defender you place requires a certain number of resources. Resources come in the form of Golden Berries and Magical Berries. Golden Berries are necessary for purchasing new Defenders. Magical Berries are necessary for upgrading existing Defenders, or using Magic.
- As soon as a Defender is placed, they will begin attacking any enemies within their same row (unless otherwise stated). They will do this until either they or the enemy is defeated. Defenders can be placed anywhere in the field, except for the two columns of dark tiles on the left side of the screen.
- The dark tiles on the left side of the screen are for Plants. Your plants are located in the upper left corner of your screen. Click on a plant, then select one of these tiles to plant it. Plants are responsible for providing Golden and Magical Berries, which will allow you to acquire more Defenders or purchase upgrades. Berries will appear periodically.
- A timer is located in the lower right corner of your screen. This indicates how much time is remaining in the level before it’s complete. You can click on the Play and Fast Forward buttons to the left of the timer to slow or speed up time.
- Make sure enemies don’t reach the statues on the left! If these statues are destroyed, it’s game over!
Upgrades
Each time you complete a level, you will receive a star ranking for doing so. The better you do, the more stars you’ll earn! You can earn between 1-3 stars per successful level completed. Stars can be used to purchase Upgrades via the Main Menu Shop. Simply select the Shop tab, then choose the upgrades you’d like to purchase! There are seven types of upgrades with four levels each. Tips & Tricks
Now that you know the basics, it’s time to put that information to good use! This section features useful tips and tricks which will help you overcome the hordes of enemies. Can you put them to good use in the battle against the goblins?
- It’s always a good idea to try and establish Plants as soon as possible in a level. Plants are responsible for giving you resources to purchase more Defenders – and that includes additional plants! You will need several Defenders in order to successfully complete a level.
- Keep a sharp eye on any Plants you’ve planted. They will provide Golden Berries and Magical Berries in intervals, but these won’t be automatically collected! You will need to hover your cursor over them in order to collect them, so pay close attention!
- You may place a Defender on a tile even if an enemy is currently on it. However, the Defender will only be able to attack that enemy if they have only just entered the tile. If the enemy is 1/3 or further across the tile, they will likely walk through the Defender as if they weren’t there.
- If an enemy passes the main section of tiles and reaches the flowerbeds on the left, they will be invulnerable to attacks, and you will need to rely on the statue’s emergency defenses or choose from a selection of special attacks shown at the bottom of your screen. They are:
- Lightning Attack (Cost: 500 Magical Berries) – Kill all enemies within a single tile.
- Meteorites (Cost: 800 Golden Berries) – Kills all enemies within a single tile.
- Toxic Cloud (Cost: 1000 Golden and Magical Berries) – Kills all enemies in a 9 tile radius.
- If a lower level enemy reaches one of your statues on the far left of your screen, try not to panic! Statues have a basic defense and can poison enemies. This is often enough to defeat smaller enemies without losing the level. Just be careful not to let this happen too often, or the statue will take too much damage and you’ll lose the level.
- Blue lines on the timer bar indicate when large waves of enemies are incoming. Try to make sure your defenses are ready to handle these large waves!
- It’s a good idea to always have an “emergency Defender”. This is a Defender which can take out a large group of enemies in case of an emergency, such as the Chili Bomb or the Bang Thistle.
- Keep a keen eye on whether or not a level features Banshee enemies. These are the most difficult enemies to hit or effect, so you will need to make sure you have the proper defenses, or else you will lose the level quickly! Refer to the Defense section above to see which Defenders are best suited for the job.
- Always place Plants in rows behind Defenders. If an enemy reaches a Plant, they will destroy it, and you will receive less resources, so make sure your Plants are guarded!
- Make sure you visit your Upgrades menu often! Upgrades are an essential part in boosting your Defenders to handle new challenges! It’s highly recommended you start off by boosting overall attack or defensive power.
- If you see any Gold Bags pop up, collect them! These contain Berry bonuses.
- Use the Sickle at the bottom of the screen to remove any unwanted Plants.
- Use the Shovel at the bottom of the screen to clear any debris which may prevent you from placing a Plant or a Defender. Try to stay on top of this and accomplish this between large waves of enemies.
- Larger obstacles or barricades blocking placement of Plants or Defenders can be removed with the Shovel at a cost of 100 Magical Berries each.
- Stone column barricades which appear in the field can’t be removed, even with the Shovel.
- It’s a good idea to always have at least one Defender who can deal heavy damage. Sometimes the best Defense is a good offense!
